DMOZ

your site free of charge. Find the appropriate category and select
the 'add url' button from there.
DMOZ Includes you in the directories and search pages for many search
engines.
Google

Google feeds AOL, Yahoo web pages, BBC and a number of other search engines.

Hotbot (we believe this also submits you to MSN / Overture)

Looksmart
As we suspected, despite what other sites may say on the matter, non commercial
sites can submit free to the Looksmart network (MSN, ntl home, and a number
of others).
Lycos
Lycos currently still have two free submissions:

Index Submission - for the web pages
Lycos say 'Your URL will be submitted within around four weeks but we
can give no guarantee of time, position within the search results or frequency
of spidering and indexing'.
Free
directory submission - to the directory section
Lycos say 'Your URL will be reviewed by our Editors and if it is passes
our submission criteria we will add it to the directory within about 6
months'.
